Dryland farming and energy savings on a communal bore

Bill Yates is a dryland farmer who crops north of Moree, near the Queensland border. Because there is no local source of water on or adjacent to the property, Garah owner and manager Bill Yates became a member of a community trust that owns and operates a large bore pump in the local area. The trust consists of 43 members, all of whom draw water from the bore. Bill is now a director of the trust. A visit from the NSW Farmers energy innovation team helped Bill to evaluate opportunities for energy efficiency on his property, and helped him answer questions about the viability of solar, both for his homestead and the communal bore pump.
